Students’ Guide – Alternative Paper-based Written Assessment (2021) (Version 2)
15. Rejection of Answer Scripts
Please note that adherence to the Students Guideline will be strictly enforced from today (25 July) onwards. Accordingly, photos of all the sheets of your answer scripts should be taken with the Timestamp within 15 minutes after the 2 hour time period allocated for each assessment. Further, the Signature and the CPM number should be correctly placed on each answer sheet in the specified places marked on the front page of each question paper. All the answer scripts that do not comply with these guidelines will be rejected without any notice.
14. Avoid duplication of your submissions
- If the primary submission mode given for a question paper is LMS, you SHOULD NOT email the answer scripts to the Course Coordinator's email. You should email the answer script to the Course Coordinator ONLY IF he/she advises you to do so.
13. Reasons for rejecting your answer scripts
Please note that out of the alternative assessments held so far, we had to reject several answer scripts sent due to:1) non-availability of the Timestamp,
2) none specification of the Timestamp, Signature, and CPM No. in required locations and
3) sending the answer scripts after 45 minutes. Hence, you should stick to the guidelines given in the Students' Guide to prevent the rejection of your answer script. If your answer script is rejected, you will have to sit for the exam next time.
12. Clarification on the use of Personal Email for sending the answer scripts
- When the email option is allowed, the students can send the answer scripts through their personal emails.
11. Clarification on the use of Layouts (FrontPage and Other Pages)
- The students can either design the relevant layouts on their own or they can take printouts of them. However, students are required to write the CPM number and the Signature manually in the relevant boxes, as instructed in the question paper.
- On top-right, we have specified a location for "Timestamp". However, drawing a box on top-right is not recommended since the space required for "Timestamp" may exceed the size of the box you draw.
10. Requirement to download all the question papers two days before the start of the examination
- All students are required to download the password-protected question papers related to all the alternative assessments to which they intend to sit for, two days before the start of the examination. Under no circumstance, the questions papers will be communicated personally to individual students.
9) Availability of ONLY the email option for courses mentioned below
- Due to some technical limitations in the LMS, the option of uploading the PDF document to the LMS will NOT be available for the courses mentioned below.
- You need to email the PDF version of your answer script to the email address specified in the question paper.

- Please note that the Examination Dates communicated to you will NOT be changed.
- However, all examinations may NOT start at 9.00 a.m. or 2.00 p.m as specified in the examination timetable, due to technical limitations in the LMS. If there is any change to the starting time, the Exam Unit will inform you in advance. The maximum variation of the time would be 1 hour.
7) Increasing the time given for taking photos and sending the PDF documents
- The time given for taking photos of the answer script has been increased to 15 minutes.
- The time given for scanning and preparing the PDF document has been increased to 30 minutes.
- Therefore, altogether, you have 45 minutes from the end of the examination to Upload your PDF documents or send them either through Email or Registered Post.
6) Location ID is not displayed in the timestamp.
There can be two issues:
- You may have turned off "Location" in your smartphone. Then, turn on "Location".
- While Timestamp app is installed, you are asked whether you "Allow" or "Deny" the app to access some of the information from your device such as "Location", "Media", "Photos" etc. If you selected the "Deny" option, the Location ID will not be displayed. Then, you have to uninstall the app and reinstall it. During the reinstallation process, "Allow" the app to access relevant information from your smartphone.
5) Use of a scanning app to prepare the answer script as a single PDF document
We have recommended using Adobe Scan and Microsoft Lens apps. However, if any of the two apps cannot be installed in your smartphone, you may use another app such as CamScanner which is familiar to you.
4) Installation of Timestamp Camera App
There are two versions available: "Timestamp Camera Free" and "Timestamp Camera Enterprise Free" apps. Please note that it is essential for you to install the "Timestamp Camera Enterprise Free" app to print the information specified
in the Students' Guide.
